In response to today's announcement by the Department of Energy and Climate Change and Department for Work and Pensions of an agreement over data-sharing with suppliers to target assistance to low-income energy customers, Jonathan Stearn, energy expert for Consumer Focus, said: ‘Better targeting of assistance to low income households is the way forward in assisting the poorest customers who are struggling to meet their energy bills. This is a very welcome move and needs to be developed to help all low income consumers struggling to make ends meet. ‘The Government and energy suppliers must look at how this approach should be widened to reach low-income families and disabled people and could further help those in energy debt.'
