GMB, the union for cleaning and security staff at Nationwide Building Society, have commented on the decision by Nationwide to bring all staff employed by Carillion, back in-house, following its collapse. [See notes to editors for previous GMB press releases on Nationwide and Carillion.]

In a statement Nationwide announced that they would take on around 250 former Carillion employees and guarantee the jobs of a further 1,500 workers.

Andy Newman, GMB Regional Officer said: "GMB Southern are pleased that the cleaners and security guards working for Nationwide have been brought back in-house.

"The cleaners at Nationwide's HQ are GMB members, and the security guards across the Nationwide contract are represented by GMB as their recognised trade union.

"Our members are delighted to see the back of Carillion, who have been a shockingly bad employer, and GMB looks forward to improved industrial relations dealing with Nationwide Building Society direct."
