FSB on First Minister’s economy speech PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 20 October 2017
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has today delivered a speech outlining her ambitions for Scotland’s economy.

Andy Willox, the Federation of Small Businesses’ (FSB) Scottish policy convenor, said: “Scotland’s smaller firms overwhelming share the First Minister’s ambitions to make the country more prosperous.

“The challenge, however, is to turn those ambitions into reality. Ministers and officials must continue to recognise the growing real-world pressures that Scottish businesses face.

“FSB strongly supports efforts to deliver a childcare system which works for the wider economy. The recently announced rate relief for day nurseries suggest that the Scottish Government understands the important role the private sector can play tackling some of Scotland’s big problems.”

On the consultation regarding a national investment bank, Andy said: “While there’s much to be applauded in the concept of a national investment bank, it shouldn’t distract from other pressing matters.

“For example, new figures out today show that Scotland’s local roads are in an unacceptably poor condition and will continue to decline. Addressing this sort of unglamorous but chronic problem would win the First Minister plaudits amongst Scotland’s smaller firms.”
