European Commission picks McAteer PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 03 August 2017
Financial Inclusion Centre founder and co-director Mick McAteer has been appointed to the European Commission’s Financial Services User Group.

The Group was set up by the European Commission in order to involve users of financial services in policy making and was renewed this month.

It advises the Commission on behalf of consumers, small investors and micro enterprises. As well as influencing policy, it is tasked with identifying key issues affecting users of financial services and liaising with representative bodies at EU and national level.

Mick McAteer is an influential, independent consumer representative, who founded the Financial Inclusion Centre after several years as the financial lead at Which?. He served on the board of the Financial Conduct Authority and its predecessor for six years.

Malcolm Hurlston CBE, chairman of the Financial Inclusion Centre, said: “Mick’s appointment by the Commission to the new group will strengthen the voice of British small businesses and shareholders as well as consumers at a key time of national destiny.”

Mick chairs the anti-poverty charity Z2K and deputy chairs the General Consumer Council of Northern Ireland. He is a board member of Registry Trust (the Registrar of Judgments, Orders and Fines), the CARITAS (Westminster) Advisory Board and ShareAction (the movement for responsible investment).
