Micro-lender, Oakam Focuses on Talent Amid Digital Push PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 27 July 2017
Oakam, a digital micro-lender catering to unbanked and underbanked consumers in the UK, has tapped Alida Cesani to lead its HR function. In this role, Alida will drive efforts to attract and develop high-performing, diverse talent, helping to advance Oakam’s position as a leading digital player in micro-lending.

“As a fintech company on a mission to expand financial access, we must first support diversity within our own ranks. We believe this is what makes us better problem-solvers, more empathetic customer listeners, and ultimately helps us deliver game-changing innovation,” said Frederic Nze, CEO and founder, Oakam. “We welcome Alida to the team and look forward to watching our talent continue to flourish under her leadership.”

Alida brings to Oakam a decade of experience managing and developing teams across continental Europe and the UK. She joins Oakam after more than five years at IG Group, a FTSE 250 online trading company. There, she was responsible for driving the people management agenda for the firm’s Sales and Operations Group in EMEA.

With more than 35 nationalities counted among Oakam’s team of 260 people, Alida’s track record working with international teams will help the business continue to attract diverse talent. At Oakam, Alida and her team will be responsible for aligning Oakam’s talent management strategy to support its business goals, particularly as it eyes opportunities outside of the UK.

“It’s rare to come across an organisation for whom diversity comes as naturally as it does for Oakam. From its retail stores through to its corporate headquarters, their commitment to attracting and supporting high-potential individuals from around the globe runs deep,” said Alida Cesani, Head of HR, Oakam. “I’m looking forward to helping deepen Oakam’s culture and values by bringing the right talent on board as the business continues to grow and evolve.”

Spurred by rising smartphone penetration in the UK, Oakam is disrupting the industry with its digital-first, mobile-driven approach to micro-lending. Oakam’s award-winning mobile app was launched in 2015 and enhanced earlier this year with Oakam Grow, its gamified rewards programme that empowers customers to develop habits that positively affect their financial health. Digital innovation has enabled Oakam to improve the cost, delivery and experience for users of micro-credit, while enhancing its risk management and underwriting decision-making.

Alida and her team will look to attract top fintech talent across marketing, product management, data science and R&D functions as Oakam continues to embrace new technologies to transform consumer finance and expand credit access.

Prior to IG Group, Alida held in-house and consultative HR positions at firms including Doka Italia, Antal International Ltd and PWC. She is also a Chartered MCIPD.
