Secure healthy jobs market by boosting Scottish local economies, says FSB PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 17 May 2017
New figures published today show that Scottish unemployment fell to just 4.4% in the three months to March 2017, while employment north of the border rose by 5,000 over the same period.

Colin Borland, FSB’s head of devolved nations, said: “Today’s impressive job figures show people finding work and Scottish firms creating jobs.

“However, there’s an obvious question about how these statistics tally with Scotland’s stagnant economic growth rate. Further, the headline figures don’t show the wide gaps between our most prosperous communities and those left behind.

“FSB research shows that successful local economies are full of smaller businesses. So it makes sense for voters to ask prospective MPs how they’ll support local enterprise and Scotland’s army of self-employed people. Getting our local economies growing would further boost local job prospects.”
