Fleet Mortgages' duo raise money with YMCA Sleep Easy 2017 PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 28 March 2017
Two employees of Fleet Mortgages, the buy-to-let and specialist lender, took part in the annual YMCA’s ‘Sleep Easy’ event in Guildford on Friday 24th March.

Jannie Vermeulen (Chief Risk Officer) and Stefan Terblanche (Head of IT) spent a night under the stars in order to raise funds and awareness for the YMCA’s safe housing programme.

This was the sixth year that Jannie had taken part and Stefan’s second time.

‘Sleep Easy’ is run annually by the YMCA’s Downslink Group; this year it took place in three locations in the South East – Guildford, Brighton & Hove, and Horsham – and saw a hundred people ‘sleeping rough’ in order to raise money for young people.

The Fleet Mortgages’ duo were hoping to raise £1,000 by doing this and can still be sponsored by visiting their Just Giving page at: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Jannie-Vermeulen1

Commenting on why they were taking part, Jannie said: “I was there when we did the first YMCA Sleep Easy event many years ago (in those days we did it in January) and have been hooked ever since. For one night I give up my comfortable surroundings, and a warm, soft bed to raise money and create awareness. Doing this makes me appreciate what I have in life; it means as much to me as for those that receive the benefits from this event. Homelessness is a growing problem and whatever I can do to help, I will.”

Stefan added: “A combination of things form part of our everyday life. Some are necessities and other luxuries and no doubt some of it I take for granted. It’s only when you experience the lack of necessities first hand that it helps you develop a real appreciation for the comforts you have. I’m fortunate enough to have more than just the necessities and I’m in a position to help others. I’ve done this again to raise money to help homeless people and to develop a fresh appreciation for the things I sometimes take for granted.”
