Hope Capital's Jonathan Sealey comments on the Bank's latest figures PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 01 March 2017
Jonathan Sealey, CEO of Hope Capital says, “It is good news as the Bank’s latest figures show that approvals for loans secured on dwellings for house purchases has increased steadily since October. However, this isn’t that surprising considering buying a home remains cheaper than renting.

“Although remortgaging was down slightly in January compared to December, this is to be expected given the anticipated seasonal lull. Borrowers are increasingly looking for new deals and many are keen to fix in a period of rising inflation and lingering economic uncertainty. It is therefore likely that we’ll see a stronger uptick in remortgage activity in the coming months, and fears of a rate rise could help to drive remortgaging to new levels in 2017.”
