Retired Watford businessman back in the game with bookkeeping company PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 18 October 2016
A former Watford businessman has come out of retirement to set up his own successful business in 2013, after courses at a specialist UK-wide e-learning college focusing exclusively on bookkeeping and accounting. Three years on, AccountsForMe is a successful limited company and employs two others.

Vipul Patel, 55, retired in 2013 after setting up, running, and selling on four successful companies. Within a year, he wanted new challenges, and joined 2000 other students at long-established online college Ideal Schools – studying to become part of the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers (ICB).

He passed the exams with flying colours in only 7 months, and started AccountsForMe as a Member of the ICB. The company now provides accounting and bookkeeping services for SMEs, sole traders, limited companies and individuals across Watford, the Home Counties, and London.

Mr Patel said: “Having the depth of business experience I have, I think we provide not just bookkeeping and accounting services, but a degree of mentorship for the small businesses owners who come to us.

“I didn’t want to go into management consultancy, and the idea of bookkeeping seemed an ideal way of keeping my hand in. The online college was the perfect fit for what I needed in terms of course materials and training.

“I would recommend them to anyone without hesitation. The tutors were very supportive, and easy to get hold of, with great response times. I thoroughly enjoyed learning with them.”

Brian McVean, director of Ideal Schools, said “Vip was an enthusiastic student, with a good understanding of what makes a small business tick, and I have no doubt that his business will flourish.”

Mr Patel isn’t content to let the grass grow under his feet, with plans for expansion already in place. He said: “We are one of the only bookkeeping firms to exclusively use Xero, a cloud based system, and I’m preparing to qualify for preparing accounts for micro-entities.

“My five year plan is to get up to three employees, and make them all shareholders. I want to be able to mentor new businesses in the Watford area and give back some of what I’ve learned.”
