The Money Shop Lisburn Presents a total of £2,000 to Local Charities to Celebrate Its Refresh PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 13 October 2016
To celebrate The Money Shop’s complete refresh of its store in Lisburn back in July, the store has presented donations to three local charities, Shopmobility Lisburn, Lisburn 2gether Special Olympics Club and Community Circus Lisburn, following votes made by customers.

Following the store re-opening in a new location, customers - during their visit over the months of August and September - had the opportunity to pick their preferred charity out of the three. The charity with the most votes – Lisburn 2gether Special Olympics Club – received a £1,000 donation from The Money Shop in Lisburn, with both runners up - Shopmobility Lisburn and Community Circus Lisburn – receiving £500 each.

Representatives from each charity attended a specially organised event on Wednesday 5th October to collect their cheques, which were presented by Stuart Howard, CEO of The Money Shop and Dollar UK, and other board members.

The concept store opened on the Market Place in Lisburn on 19th July, and was one of a number of improvements being implemented across the business. The changes intend to ensure customers continue to receive the highest quality service in a newly designed, relaxed environment with all their needs accommodated under one-roof.

The new store design was a direct response to the feedback customers had given to staff. Improvements include:

A brand new loan and application zone where customers can discuss their finances in comfort and confidence with The Money Shop’s expert staff
A separate counter area for general requests, including a fast-track service for currency and money-transfers, whilst offering more privacy for customers
Seating areas
A new look jewellery display
These improvements were fitted by local firm, Edge Design, based only minutes from the new store at 15 Market Place.

Stuart Howard, CEO of The Money Shop, said: “We are delighted to celebrate our investment in the Market Place by presenting these donations to three wonderful local charities. Additionally, our £25,000 Giving Fund is live, which will support good causes in communities around the UK, including Lisburn.

“It is an exciting time for The Money Shop here, and the brand as a whole. This new concept store symbolises the future of The Money Shop and the services we provide. We always want to enhance the experience for the customer, and that is exactly what we have done. We want them to get the most out of their visit to the store - they told us what they would like to see change, and we delivered on that by re-designing the entire store.”

Shaun Cassidy, Regional Director at Special Olympics Ulster, said: “Both Special Olympics Ulster and our local club Lisburn 2gether are delighted with the donation from The Money Shop (Lisburn). As a charitable organisation, we rely heavily on the support of local companies to help continue to deliver our programme of sporting events and competitions. In particular, Special Olympics Ulster is piloting a “Young Athletes” sports programme to engage children from the age of four and Lisburn 2gether will use their contribution to to build and develop the existing skills of our athletes, raise the Club's profile and promote the very talented and dedicated athletes who come along each week and train in their chosen sport.”

Helen Ashton, Project Manager, Community Circus Lisburn, said: "Community Circus Lisburn would like to thank The Money Shop for their generous support of our charity work. This term, we are continuing our work with young people across Lisburn, including a number of new members, as well as those who have been attending for many years. Our work benefits them in many ways, including increased confidence, communication, teamwork and focus, alongside learning some exciting circus skills. The received funding will go towards our core costs, as well as allowing us to purchase specialist equipment. We are also planning to develop our unicycle and aerial skills, and new equipment will enable us to do this more efficiently, and have more fun!"

Wanda Mcilwaine, Charity Administrator at Shopmobility Lisburn, said: “The Money Shop’s generosity and commitment to our work by awarding us £500.00 will make so much difference to the lives of so many people with mobility issues within the City of Lisburn. With this financial support from the Lisburn store, Shopmobility Lisburn can reinvest all of the money received into maintaining what has become a vital service to the community. Thank you Money Shop Lisburn, your kind backing has already brightened someone’s day!”
