The Nottingham launches new SportsAid Regular Saver account to help future champions PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 30 September 2016
To mark the 40th anniversary of SportsAid - the charity for young athletes - Nottingham Building Society (The Nottingham) has launched a special savings account to raise money for sports stars of the future.

The new SportsAid Regular Saver account pays 3% to customers and for every £1 the customer saves each month 0.25% goes to SportsAid to support young unfunded athletes. The launch of the account comes during the charity’s inaugural SportsAid Week.

Established in 1976 SportsAid has supported tens of thousands of athletes including Sir Chris Hoy, Mo Farah CBE, Dame Sarah Storey, Jessica Ennis-Hill CBE, Sir Bradley Wiggins and Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson.

The Nottingham has been a partner of SportsAid since 2013 and supported 95 promising young sports stars including Team GB table tennis player Sam Walker, Great Britain diver Jordan Holden, Great Britain Federation Cup tennis player Freya Christie, Great Britain para-sprinter Zac Shaw and Junior World Champion Freestyle Skier Molly Summerhayes.

The SportsAid Regular Saver account can be opened in any of The Nottingham’s branches, a list of which can be found on their website at www.thenottingham.com.

Money donated to SportsAid goes directly to the athletes to cover certain training and competition costs and allowing them to focus on their sporting endeavours. Without SportsAid many of the athletes would face a hard choice over whether or not to continue training and competing.

Simon Taylor, Chief Operating Officer at The Nottingham, said: “Following the amazing success of our athletes in Rio this year we are delighted to be launching this new savings account offering 3% to savers.

“It is part of our commitment to supporting young athletes in our community to reach their full potential. Without this type of support many of our gold medal athletes would not be the household names they are today; two local examples are Olympic swimmers Adam Peaty from Uttoxeter and Rebecca Adlington from Mansfield.”

Tim Lawler, CEO of SportsAid, said: “This is a very exciting development for SportsAid and all the more so being launched in the charity’s anniversary year and around the inaugural SportsAid Week. Our partnership with The Nottingham has grown steadily over a number of years and their staff and customers have increasingly committed their enthusiasm and support for the cause. This new savings account is a brilliant way to build on that affinity, benefit from the expertise and experience of The Nottingham and help Britain’s next generation of sporting talent in the process. What better time to try something new like this than in Olympic and Paralympic year?”
