Atradius furthers commitment to develop future talent PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 29 July 2016
Trade credit insurer Atradius has partnered with a Welsh university as part of its drive to develop future talent.

Employing more than 16 graduates and interns at its UK headquarters in Cardiff and part of the Welsh Financial Services Graduate Programme, Atradius is committed to bridging the gap between education and industry.

As part of its latest initiative, Atradius technology expert Ceri Charlton was invited to feed back on student courses run by the University of South Wales’ School of Computing as part of a panel to ensure the courses syllabuses are relevant to industry. The revalidation panel brings together lecturers and industry representatives to tailor the content for the university’s courses to match what employers are looking for in the workplace. The session evaluated syllabuses from six Information Technology (IT) degrees, held at the university’s Treforest campus.

Aside from ensuring that the courses are relevant and suitably rigorous, this also feeds into making the graduates of these schemes more employable, by matching what they’re taught to the real-world skills gaps.

Ceri, who is Atradius’ group information security manager, said: “It was a pleasure and privilege to be part of this scheme with the University of South Wales. In order to remain competitive and meet the ever-changing demands of modern business, the skills we’re looking for change quite rapidly. Within certain disciplines, such as information technology, new developments occur almost daily. Therefore, it is imperative that education continues to evolve so that the future talent pool is work ready and can meet the needs of businesses.

“Cardiff is the home of Atradius’ UK headquarters so we have a real interest in investing in the future talent pool, helping develop their skills to address the region’s skills gaps. As a major Welsh employer, we want to provide the best service from the best people so it’s imperative that we therefore play our part in nurturing the next generation.”

University of South Wales Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Helen Langton, said: “We work with leading organisations, such as Atradius, and professional bodies to develop and review the content of our courses. It is essential that they reflect new developments within industry and technology, and that employers can be assured that graduates from the University of South Wales are appropriately skilled and ready for the world of work.”
