|BCAP payday loan review response|
|Thursday, 30 June 2016|
The Consumer Finance Association responded to the Broadcasting Committee of Advertising Practice payday loans scheduling consultation.
Consumer Finance Association CEO, Russell Hamblin-Boone, said: “We are pleased that after an extensive review the Broadcast Committee of Advertising Practice (BCAP) has concluded there is no need to restrict the scheduling of adverts on a regulated sector. We are disappointed the Committee feels it necessary to prolong the inquiry. But any further analysis must be based on up-to-date evidence about the activity of lenders in recent months, not studies that cite research from two or more years ago.
As the review acknowledges, significant improvements have been made to the sector and CFA members have been at the forefront of this change and have set the industry standards. This includes voluntary guidelines to ensure adverts for HCSTC, which are only available for over 18s, are not targeted at children. Our members have always been committed to safe, secure and compliant lending with the needs of our customers in mind.
