|Fintech company Lemon Way chosen as red herring's top 100 europe winner 2016|
|Tuesday, 19 April 2016|
Red Herring announced its Red Herring Europe award winners on the 18th of April at the Top 100 forum. Recognizing Europe’s leading private companies and celebrating these startups’ innovations and technologies across their respective industries, Red Herring’s Top 100 list has become a mark of distinction for identifying promising new companies and entrepreneurs since 1996. Thousands of Europe’s most interesting and innovative companies have graced the Top 100 list over the years.
In 2016, selecting the top achievers was by no means a small feat » said Alex Vieux, publisher and CEO of Red Herring. "In fact, we had the toughest time in years because so many entrepreneurs had crossed significant milestones so early. But after much thought, rigorous contemplation and discussion, we narrowed our list down from hundreds of candidates from across Europe to the Top 100 Winners. We believe Lemon Way embodies the vision, drive and innovation that define a successful entrepreneurial venture. Lemon Way should be proud of its accomplishment, as the competition was very strong".
LEMON WAY: AN AWARDED PAN-EUROPEAN AND AFRICAN PLAYER
"We are honoured and proud to have received this award, it means a lot for us to be a Top 100 Europe Winner as Lemon Way is a team of passionate and hard-working people." Damien Guermonprez (CEO at Lemon Way)
« Lemon Way has taken off in Europe thanks to the boom in crowdfunding and the sharing economy, around ten new platforms contact us every day" according to Sébastien Burlet (Founder & President at Lemon Way), who expects the number of crowdfunding sites in Europe to rise sharply.
New European regulations require any entity that receives money on behalf of a third party to call on, or to become, a payment institution. As a consequence, crowdfunding platforms, e-commerce marketplaces, remittance services, social gift and wedding list websites, kitties, car sharing or renting between private individuals, can all call on Lemon Way to open an account for each of their customers in order to be in line with new regulations. As an accredited payment institution, passported in 30 European countries, Lemon Way has become one of Europe's leading FinTech operators and the #1 French FinTech company.
"In 2015, Lemon Way handled €190 million for over 300 marketplaces – crowdfunding sites, collective gifts, kitties, ticketing sites – and we are on track to service, within four years, 6,000 platforms and to open 30 million accounts for private individuals in the same period" explains Lemon Way's CEO, Damien Guermonprez. He concludes: "We will hire 40 new recruits in 2016 to support our development in Europe and on the international stage. " Also present in Africa where it operates as a mobile payment and money transfer institution, the company counts over 1 million individual accounts in Mali. Furthermore, Lemon Way Africa recently won the "African Startup of the Year" award at Startup of the Year 2016 event.
