FSB in Scotland comments on employment figures PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 21 January 2016

The number of Scots in employment rose by 21,000 between September and November, lifting Scotland’s employment rate to 74.9%, according to new official statistics. New figures also revealed that the Scottish unemployment rate improved, falling to 5.4%, however the UK jobless rate performed better, dropping to 5.1%

Andy Willox, FSB Scottish Policy Convenor, said: “Today’s statistics highlight how Scottish businesses are continuing to deliver new jobs and opportunities, despite real economic challenges.

“However feedback from our members suggests that small business confidence is weakening north of the border. We need to get behind our army of small businesses and make it as easy as possible for Scottish firms to achieve their ambitions.

“These nationwide figures don’t reveal the economic challenges that individual local economies are facing. During this year’s Scottish Parliament elections, we must see all the parties reveal new strategies to get all parts of the country firing on all cylinders.”
