Leon Dhaene Appointed New Director General of Leaseurope and Eurofinas PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 21 December 2015

Leaseurope, the trade association representing the European leasing and automotive rental industries, and Eurofinas, the trade association representing specialised consumer credit providers in Europe, are proud to announce that their respective Board of Directors have unanimously appointed Leon Dhaene as Director General of both Federations effective 1 December 2015. L. Dhaene succeeds Tanguy van de Werve who has left Leaseurope and Eurofinas to join AFME, the Association for Financial Markets in Europe, to head their Brussels Advocacy Office.

"I take great satisfaction in knowing that Leaseurope is in the hands of such a talented executive. Leon's expertise and vision will contribute significantly to Leaseurope continuing to provide leading edge, quality services to our memberships and to represent our industry at European and international level," said Enrico Duranti, Leaseurope’s Chair. "Leon is a vital addition to the team as we navigate through an evolving and expanding regulatory and supervisory environment."

"Leon has been credited for shaping successful businesses" said Valentino Ghelli, Eurofinas’ Chair.” “I look forward to working with him and his strong team in Brussels. I am convinced that together with our Board of Directors and our Member Associations, we will continue to successfully represent our industry with a powerful and united voice.

Upon his appointment, Leon said “I am honoured and excited to lead Leaseurope and Eurofinas. Both Federations have served the industries they represent for a long time and I see a lot of potential going forward. We have many opportunities to deliver value adding services to our Members thanks to a great team in Brussels supported by an impressive number of Member Associations across Europe and strong Boards. I look forward to being part of their success in the years to come."

Leon, of Belgian nationality, has over 25 years of financial services experience, including leadership roles in large companies, such as IBM and Mastercard International. Subsequently, Leon founded several new companies, delivering strategic consulting (Network of Alliances, Outsourcing and Mergers Experts – NAOME), consulting services (Chairman of N2FINANCE), legal services and innovation solutions (like new fraud detection and management systems) to the payments industry. Leon has been appointed Board Member of or Advisory to several Board of Directors since 1985. Leon has been advising regulators and multiple Associations at European level in the past and is currently sitting as independent expert on the Payment Systems Market Expert Group of the European Commission Directorate General Internal Market and Services.
