Older home-owners - public outrage or broad consensus? PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 23 September 2015

Our new blog post <> , published today, looks at the recent media debate around the issues facing older home-owners.  It’s central to the CML’s current work on retirement borrowing – and it’s a subject that’s produced some polarised media comment recently.  But, in today’s blog, the CML’s Sue Anderson urges readers to remember quite how much consensus exists.

Behind the semantics, she says, the real debate is not about coercion, but about choice.  No-one, as far as we know, is suggesting that older home-owners should be forced or guilt-tripped into making decision that they don’t want to.  The key question, Sue argues, is how to address the current lack of perceived choice for older home-owners who would like to move, but feel that they can’t.
