CML News & Views: Largest lenders 2014 PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 04 September 2015

Which lenders have seen the strongest growth in recent times?  Today, we publish our list of the 20 largest lenders in 2014.

It reflects a competitive market.  Growth in lending both to home-buyers and buy-to-let borrowers has created opportunities in all sectors, and firms of all shapes and sizes have played their part.  Total lending by the six largest firms grew by 17%, and they maintained their aggregate market share.  But medium-sized lenders recorded a collective 46% growth in activity.  As ever, there were movements up and down the rankings – our table reveals all.

Today’s issue also includes our chief economist Bob Pannell’s views on the key issues affecting housing supply.  Of course we need to build more homes, he says, but is that enough?  Bob gives his thoughts on that key question at <http://www.cml.org.uk/news/when-building-more-homes-isnt-enough/>.

And while everyone agrees we need more homes, how can we deliver them and where should they be built?  We outline the views of planning policy specialist Lord Matthew Taylor, who will be expanding on them when he addresses the CML annual conference in November.
