The proposals for the upcoming Lord Davies report PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 11 August 2015

Krystyna Nowak, Managing Director, Board and Financial Services Practices, Norman Broadbent – the executive search firm, comments on the proposals for the upcoming Lord Davies report:

“Certainly, there’s the argument that introducing quotas can bring the risk of tokenism. However, five years ago everyone said the same when Lord Davies suggested the target of 25% on FTSE 100 Boards – we have now reached that target. It was worth taking that risk.
“We hope Lord Davies’ next report will achieve its goal of seeing a higher proportion of women in the highest paid roles; aiming for a 25% target of women on executive committees and other leadership roles will be valuable. In addition, this will have the effect of bringing more visibility to top pay both in general and in any gender differences;  it will be interesting to see how the proposal will be formulated.
“To achieve this 25% target level, companies will have to be more proactive on succession planning. They will also need to be much more focussed on developing women through the lower and middle pipelines, to progress into these senior roles. The key challenge this presents is keeping women coming through the pipeline and not losing them along the way. Companies need to work hard at retaining the right staff and helping to keep them progressing to senior executive levels.”
