Thursday, 02 July 2015

Summer has certainly arrived just in time for us to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the ICO. The data protection landscape was very different back in 1985 but the one thing that hasn’t changed is the concern the public has over who has access to their information. This was reflected in our annual report launched this month.

Our enforcement action continues to deal with these concerns today with a raid on a call centre in South Manchester and an undertaking with South Wales Police.

We report on the London Action Plan (LAP), a world-wide network of organisations, including the ICO, who regularly meet with the aim of protecting consumers from nuisance calls and spam messages.

And the ICO takes on a new role concerning the regulations around the re-use of public sector information.

We will be publishing guidance during the next month alongside The National Archives.
