FSB in Scotland on new job figures PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 17 June 2015

The number of Scots unemployed increased by 1,000 to 163,000 between February and April 2015, according to official figures published today. Scotland’s unemployment rate now stands at 5.9 per cent. However registered employment also increased by 14,000 over the same period.

Colin Borland, the Federation of Small Businesses’ (FSB) head of external affairs in Scotland, said:
“These stubborn unemployment figures highlight the scale of the challenge many of our communities face. While other headline economic indicators are positive, we must tap the potential of all of Scotland’s businesses if we’re to achieve full employment.
“Better links between industry and education are a key way to boost business and reduce unemployment. While some good initiatives are in the pipeline, if Scotland wants to create jobs and drive prosperity, we need to give our workforce the right skills, not just a range of impressive qualifications.”
