UK small businesses and entrepreneurs on the rise, says LinkedIn

The number of Britain’s entrepreneurs, sole traders and SMEs is on the rise, according to the latest research released today by LinkedIn, the world’s largest online professional network. This growth in the number of small businesses in the UK comes as Britain’s biggest companies are reducing the size of their workforces, LinkedIn also found.

FSB welcomes government prioritising SMEs in Brexit talks

Following the Government’s Brexit business meeting at Chevening today, FSB Policy Director Martin McTague, who was at the meeting, said:  “I was very encouraged that government ministers seemed in listening mode and committed to achieving a pro-business Brexit. They made clear at the meeting, which included a number of big business leaders, that the needs of SMEs would be top of the priority list when looking at our future outside of the EU. There was strong recognition from ministers that small businesses would be the least able to cope with trade barriers, both in terms of tariffs and bureaucracy. And I was heartened by the recognition of the benefits of free trade, and a clear moral drive that our future success will rest upon it.”
41% of SMEs feel Brexit has negatively impacted their business

62% of UK SMEs voted to remain in the EU. 41% said Brexit has negatively impacted their business since the referendum, and just 5% said it has positively impacted them.
Asset finance up 16% in May

New figures released today by the Finance & Leasing Association (FLA) show that asset finance new business (primarily leasing and hire purchase) grew in May by 16% compared with the same month last year.
